Off to Ohio

I'm heading out with the kids to drive to Ohio in the morning. This is the first time that I will drive it by myself without Kevin along. I think we'll be ok, I'm just going to have to be patient with the kids and not get frustrated. And hopefully Maddux will realize that I can't do much for him while I'm driving and will lay low and ask Ava for help. With Kevin we can do the trip in about 10 hours, so I'm shooting to do it in about the same amount of time. My stops might take longer since we can't split up and tag-team, but I don't really plan on stopping any more often.

They've got their normal basket of car toys that I'm going to put on the little seat in between them, so at least Ava will be able to reach everything easily and Maddux will be able to reach some of it. I've also got a 2nd basket of new toys that I'm going to keep up with me. I've got a new Leapster game for Ava and a Cars handheld game for Maddux. And then there's a bunch of little stuff, like slinkies, etch-a-sketch, notepads w/stickers, silly putty, etc. My plan is to dole these out slowly over the course of the drive. I've also got some fun candy like necklaces, nerds ropes, air heads, etc. And then of course the DVD player. I'll set the portable one up on their toy basket so it will sit right there between them. Every time I start up the car I'll start a movie. When it's over Ava can turn it off and then they'll hopefully be content to ride for a while. Then we'll stop for a break and start the cycle over again.
