Frustrating

Just as I get started, I'm forced to a stop. When I ran on Tuesday I rubbed dime sized blisters on the backs of both my heels. It wasn't until the very end of my first run that they happened so they weren't all that deep, just broad. My 2nd run was supposed to be Thursday evening. I got some moleskin and new, non-cotton, socks as per a used-to-be-in-the-army-where-she-had-tons-of-blisters friend. I got my moleskin "donuts", wore my newly washed socks and tried out my shoes. I walked around the front yard for a bit to see how it was. After only a few minutes I could feel the pressure and pain so I gave up for another night. Fast forward to Saturday morning. I woke up ready to go out and do my 2nd run. My blisters were flat by this time so I figured things would go better. I also learned a new way to lace my shoes up so that they'd be tighter in the heel and lessen the blister causing slippage.

Things felt pretty good at first. No pain, and seemingly no slippage. As I stopped the 3rd of the 8 "runs" in my podcast the pain hit me. All of a sudden, in both feet. Of course I was a good distance from home by that point. I started walking home and it jsut got worse. I almost took my shoes off and walked barefoot, but I stepped gingerly and made it home. And sure enough, I tore the loose skin off the top of both blisters. youch I think what happened is the moleskin unstuck from my foot and then slid around over that loose skin until it peeled off. I obviously have a slippage problem with my shoes.

So, I'm on pause for right now. I'm going to let these essentially raw and very tender spots heal up all the way. Then I'm off to get new shoes. I've always had trouble finding tennis shoes that don't slip off my heels. But with only light activity and walking it's never been an issue. Running obviously is more movement and impact though, so I need something that really fits.

It's a bummer. I finally get to the point where what I'm thinking coincides with actually wanting to do it and I'm essentially forced to stop.

Indeed, that would be frustrating. I have faith in you that you'll want to run more once the blisters have healed. :-)
