Yep, that is meant to be taken literally. There is something in my kitchen wall... an interior wall. Kevin and I started hearing a quiet scratching noise last night after the kids went to bed. At first we thought it was one of the cats licking something, but better listening pinpointed us to the wall. Upon even closer listening we're pretty sure it's a mouse.
While I absolutely do not like the idea of a mouse stuck in the space between studs in my wall, I feel extremely bad for it. I even tried talking Kevin into cutting a hole in the wall so it could come out. I think he thought I was a bit crazy to want to let what we *think* is a mouse out into the house. He said he thought we should just let it die.
But now, as I sit hear eating my toast and reading blogs I can hear him. scritch-scratching away. :( I have an intense ability to empathize with animals... even nasty little mice.
If I had a good way to catch it once we let it out I would cut a small hole in the wall. Ideas? Oh, and there's the possibility of course that it's not a mouse. Part of me thinks a mouse wouldn't get stuck at the bottom of a wall, that a mouse could climb the studs and/or drywall. But whatever little creature this is it's stuck at the bottom, it's the only place we hear it.

I think you're gonna need an exterminator. If it doesn't get out and dies in the wall, that thing is going to STINK! Can't wait to hear what it turns out to be! I know the exterminators have little cameras that they lower down to see what's in there and that helps them catch it....we went through that at our old house. Good luck!!! Hopefully it will find a way back to the outside on its own....
YIKES! You may not want to just let it die in there....it will start to smell! This happened to a friend of mine. They thought it was a mouse and it was a little family of racoons!! Not to freak you out.. but call someone to check it out! Good luck!
did you find out what it was? maybe a bird?? good luck!
