I painted a mug at ArtSpace last week. I used pictures that the kids had drawn to design my mug. A couple weeks before Maddux had drawn a picture of our kitty, Ramble. It was the first time he had drawn something that actually looked like what he said it was. He drew it on the whiteboard so I took a picture to keep it. That same week Ava drew a really fantastic picture of our other cat, Cammie. Since I had 2 great pictures of our 2 cats I decided to use them for my mug.
Here's the whiteboard drawing of Maddux's Ramble (the orange cat was drawn by Ava)...
Here's Ava's Cammie (we're not entirely sure what a "com" cat is, I'm thinking she meant "tom" cat, but Cammie's a girl)...
And my mug, I love it! It turned out sooo good. I was concerned about my decision to make the mug blue, but it came out just as I wanted, a little imperfect like the drawing it's based on. I also decided to make Ramble gray like he is in real life, otherwise he would have looked like a white kitty. I love this mug so much I think I might save up other artwork and make a whole collection of them!

I LOVE it!!! How did you get the kids' artwork onto the mug???
I love that! TOo cute! We did mugs together for our first wedding anniversary. They are so special.
Maybe Ava meant "calm"? :)
"calm"... I didn't think of that. I'll have to ask Ava to explain further.
Megan - you take a copy of the artwork in (I printed smaller versions so they'd fit) and trace it with carbon paper onto whatever you are painting. Then you just paint over it as much or as little as you want!
what a great idea amy!
(now don't accidentally drop it on the kitchen floor like i would!!)
Great idea. I love how it turned out.
That is so cute Amy!
I think it's calm, too. She's a calm cat but sometimes she hisses. I speak kid.
I love the mugs. I also love the donut maker.
