Today was the first real day of school... for both kids! Ava did have school one day last week, but it was an assessment day. She only had one other boy in her class that day so it wasn't quite the full experience.
This morning both kids were very excited about going to school. We told them we were all taking Ava to school first and then we'd take Maddux. Problem was, we didn't fully explain to Maddux that there is a 30 minute down-time between dropping Ava off and his time to go to school. As we headed home Maddux got really upset and was almost to cry, so Kevin did a quick u-turn instead of heading into our neighborhood and we had a nice little trip to Jack-in-the-Box instead. :)
Back to Ava... she had a wonderful day. She was not nervous in the slightest going into her room. She had the same teacher she had for assessments so she'd already been there. And as luck would have it her good friend from across the street is in her class as well as a boy that has been in school with her since 2 yr old preschool! What are the chances of that with 8 kindergarten classrooms?! She brought home her first homework assignment and her daily communication folder. We have to keep a record of everything she reads and everything we read to her! I've got to get myself organized and in a routine.
As for Maddux, he had a wonderful day. I was a little concerned since he didn't do well last year, but what a difference a year makes. He went right in his class and sat down to doodle. He wouldn't even kiss or hug me goodbye. He had a fun day and is excited about going back tomorrow.
As for me, I went to Target and Old Navy all by myself. I also got a bit done around the house. It was just nice to have some peace and quiet for a few hours.
