We had so much fun today. The weather was to die for... just under 80 with a nice breeze. Perfect for playing outside, so that's exactly what we did, just about all day long. My only regret is that I didn't have my camera with me (and that I didn't put sunscreen on my fair-skinned girl, she's a little pink tonight).
This morning we met my friend Jamie and her little boy Eli, who is buddies with Maddux, on our community greenway. From there we walked to the playground, or I should say, Jamie and I walked while all 3 kids ran at full speed only stopping when we'd tell them they were getting too far ahead. We climbed, slid, swang, played in the sand and threw rocks into the creek for over 2 hours! We even had a picnic lunch. Then I got to haul my 65 lbs of kids back home in the wagon (nice leg workout for me). We've never spent so much time at the playground before. Having a friend along helped, both for me and the kids. Jamie and I have been getting together at least once a week now for awhile and it's been really nice.
Once we got home I attempted to get the kids to sleep, but they of course had other plans. Maddux was yawning up a storm, but he only lasted 20 minutes in his bed before he was calling "I just not tired, momma", so I gave in and let him get up. A nap is not worth a struggle to me anymore. They did settle down in my bed for a short while watching Garfield and then spent a good amount of time coloring so they at least rested some.
Then this afternoon we had Preschoolers in the Park at the Nature Center with the MOMS Club. This is basically a storytime with a craft. Todays theme was "deer" so they got to feel a deer skin and learn a bit about deer (did you know they shed their antlers every winter and eat them for calcium? I had no idea!). The weather was so nice that our teacher decided to take the kids out for a hike to look for what deer eat, drink and where they sleep. We all walked a 1/4 mile loop trail behind the center. The kids all seemed to really love it. It was a perfect day for a hike in the woods. After the hike they listened to the story "Lost in the Woods" about a baby deer and then made a deer puppet.
From there we went out to eat at my fave mexican restaurant, Rey Azteca. I ate way too much, but it was just so good I couldn't help myself. After dinner we drove down to the boat ramps and let the kids throw sweetgum balls in the lake and watch people get their boats in and out.
Kevin's out mowing the grass to get a headstart on tomorrow and both kids have completely crashed for the night. I'm hoping not to hear from them until 8 in the morning. That would be excellent. It won't be long before I'm crashing into bed too... especially after a glass or two of wine!
