We dyed eggs today for Easter. I don't usually look forward to dying eggs... I'm not big on messy crafts, especially when there's potential for stains... but I wanted to try something different this year that looked to be less messy than dipping eggs in cups. It was for Tie-Dyed eggs from the Family Fun magazine. I tried to find a link, but it was from a few years ago. (Yes, I'm a geek and I clip fun craft ideas out of magazines and then save them in a binder. Ava and I recently went through my stack of clippings and organized them by holiday. Now I just need to do more of them!)
Anyway, you basically take eggs, put them in a colander, splash them with some vinegar and then drip on a drop or two of yellow food coloring per egg (I suppose you wouldn't have to start with yellow, but that's what the article said so that's what we did). You swish them around for a couple seconds and then wait for 30 seconds. Then you drip on another color, swish, wait for 30 and repeat this one more time. After the 3rd color sets you rinse them with some water and let them dry. They turned out really cute (much better than box kits in my opinion and experience) and best of all we didn't have messy drips or stained fingers!
I only had 9 eggs, oops, but Maddux was done after 2 eggs anyway, so Ava did the rest. She had fun and likes how they turned out. She's already eaten one, yolk and all!
Here's a few pics....
