We have lived in this house for almost 7 years and for the whole time I have disliked my white formica, original to the house (1991), stained, chipped countertops. I don't especially like my cabinets either. We've always dreamed of a big kitchen remodel, but it's always been just a dream because it would be so expensive. Then I noticed that one of the seams in the counter that is right in front of the sink was beginning to show signs of water damage. The seam was beginning to bubble and lift. This basically meant we had to do something in the next year or so, otherwise we would risk damage to the structure of the cabinet underneath. We decided, realistically, to scrap the idea of new cabinets and look into pricing out new countertops. They're pricey, that's for sure!
Anyway, we ultimately caught an excellent sale on Silestone at Home Depot and jumped all over it... 10% off, an additional $300 off, plus a free sink ($300). I had just made the decision that I wanted quartz when we happened upon the sale... perfect! Our new counters will be installed this Wednesday! We have a lot of work to do leading up to that... most importantly, ripping out the old counters! Kevin's dad is going to come help on Sunday, so that's the day I'll no longer have a working kitchen. yikes, I'm not sure how fun that will be. I love the idea of not having to cook, but not having a sink or a hooked up dishwasher shall prove interesting. Bring on the paper plates and cups! :)
We're also going to put up a tile backsplash. I think we're going to tackle this ourselves. Our neighbor is a tile guy, so we can always default to him if we have to, but I'm confident we can do it with little difficulty. And to go along with it all we painted too. I've never liked the blue which we painted 2 years ago, but I was scared to make another bad choice so we've put it off. I LOVE what we picked out this time.
Here's all our samples. The countertop sample, and the tile we're 99% sure we're going with. We'll wait to make a final decision after the counters are in and the paint in the kitchen is finished. The lighter paint chip is our family room color, it's a nice basic tan. The other chip is the kitchen color and is also on the fireplace wall in the family room since that wall runs into the kitchen. It's more of a mocha-ish brown. The colors look fabulous. The project is dragging out a bit, but that's typical for how we get things done. :)

Did you say Take Out. We will be over.

Enjoy your new kitchen.

That's going to be beautiful!!!
I love your choices... we just put in a new tile backsplash this week and it's very similar to the one that you have chosen... I hope you like to grout, b/c it takes a lot to fill in all of those squares... We've been in up to our elbows in grout all week!!!! Can't wait to see your final product!
